Tempest's MapEdit Tutorials Vertical Doors Building the door in 2D mode Create the vertical door the way you want in 2d-mode. Point the mouse cursor inside the sector you want to make a vertical door of. Press Alt F5 to change the sector's variables: Type: 600 Z Motion This assigns a sector to move vertically (in the Z-axis). State: Off This is the default. We'll make the door closed when it's "Off" and open when "On". On->Off BusyTime=30 This is the time it takes for a door to go from a open position to a closed one. On->Off Wave=1.Linear This is to make the door move at a constant speed. WaitTime=30 Toggle this radiobox on and set a value. This makes the door autoclose after a certain amount of time. Off->On BusyTime=30 The time for a door to open. Off->On Wave=1.Linear Trigger On WallPush This toggle option enables the door to open when you press space. Remember to press Enter to confirm your changes. Finishing the door in 3D mode Raise the door ceiling slightly lower. You'll notice that the textures at the sides of the door will move as well. You don't want this to happen whenever you open/close a door, so point at the sides and press O. You will see a text saying "Texture pegged at bottom". Now realign the textures. When you move the door ceiling again you'll notice that the side textures will not move. Now set the height of the door ceiling to the position you want it to be when the door is opened. Press Alt F4. This will set the door's height in the "Off" position. Point the mouse cursor at the door ceiling and press and hold the left mouse button. While holding the mousebutton bring the door ceiling all the way to the floor and press Alt F3. This will set the door's height in the "On" position. While pointing the mousecursor at the door you can press F3 and F4 to view the door in the "Off" or "On" positions. It's usually handy to save your map while the doors are opened. Try experimenting with the various sector variables to see how it affects the door. I'll show you how to add switches and locks to your doors in future lessons. Advanced Sector & Sprite Editing A sector in Blood can include lots of effects, much more than was possible with Duke3D's build. To view the various sector tags, go to 2D-mode, point the mouse cursor inside a valid sector, and press F5. You'll see a bunch of stats at the bottom of the screen. To edit these values press Alt-F5 instead. Sprites have their own variables and flags too. View them with F6 and edit with Alt-F6. While in the editing dialogs, the following keys are active: Secret Areas To create secret areas you'll have to: Toggle on the "Trigger On: Enter" radiobutton. A secret area will be registered when you walk into that sector. Toggle on the "Set at ON" radiobutton. Toggle on the "DudeLockout" radiobutton so that monsters can't trigger secret areas. Toggle on the "1-Shot" radiobutton so that you can only trigger a secret area once. Change the "Cmd" value to 64. Change the "TX ID" value to 2. The rest should be at their default setting. Copying sectors - Hold down Right Alt and the left mousebutton and move your mouse around to create a bounding box around the sectors (and everything inside of it) you want to copy. Release everything. Every sector you just have selected will be a blinking green. If you go into 3D-mode and press Page Up or Page Down EVERY selected sector will be affected by those keys. To copy the selected sector, press Insert in 2D-mode. Hold down the left mousebutton and drag the copied sectors to another place on the map. Press Right Alt again to turn off your selection. Moving sectors - Hold down Right Shift and the left mousebutton and move your mouse around to create a bounding box around the vertices/sprites you want to select. Release everything. All the vertices and sprites you selected will be blinking. Hold down the left mousebutton and drag your selection to a new position. Press Right Shift again to turn off your selection. Ambient Sounds Insert an ambient sound sprite (sprite #710) into your map and change the following values using Alt F6 in 2d-mode: Type 710: Ambient SFX If it's not set already... State 1: On Data1 : X Where X is the range of the yellow circle. Data2 : X Where X is the range of the brown circle. These circles have something to do with the distance you can hear the sounds from, but what they exactly do I'm not sure although I suspect it has something to do with the Wave type of the sound. Data3 : X Where X is the sound to be played. Data4 : X Where X is the volume of the sound. Alan kindly explained to me the difference between the two circles: 1. While playing the game, the level of sound remains constant while inside the yellow circle. 2. While inside the yellow circle, the sound is playing the loudest it will. 3. Between the border of the yellow circle and the border of the brown circle, there seems to be a gradualization from loud to soft as you approach the border of the brown circle. Once you leave the brown circle you can no longer hear the sound. 4. If you make the yellow circle larger than the brown circle (meaning the brown circle is inside the yellow circle) then there is no sound at all. Sector Sounds This sound is activated when a sector is triggered. Usually used in doors. Insert a sector sound sprite (sprite #709) into your map and change the following values using Alt F6 in 2d-mode: Type 709: Sector SFX If it's not set already... Data1 : X Start sound of sector going from off to on state. Data2 : X Stop sound of sector going from off to on state. Data3 : X Start sound of sector going from on to off state. Data4 : X Stop sound of sector going from on to off state. Ambient Sfx List by Ronald Allen State 1 must be turned on, all other settings remain off or unchanged. Data#1 and Data#2 describe the diameter of brown and yellow circles the common center of which is your ASOUND sprite (#710). These 2 circles define the area in which the sprint will be heard. Data #3 identifies the sound that is assigned to the sprite.
