Other project diaries: CM400A VENTURE
1990 Yamaha FJ1200 sport tourer.
This bike has always held a special love for me.
I owned an 86 Yamaha FJ1100 back during my college days and told myself that one day I would own another one again. Well 20 years later, I finally succeeded. In another strange twist of fate I found someone who wanted to trade a 1990 FJ1200 for my 79 Kawasaki KZ1000 police project. I really couldn't pass it up. Of course like my other bikes, it's in need of some serious attention, but that's part of the fun. Hoping to have this one on the road by next spring but that's before I've done a full evaluation.
9/11/07: Once again I find myself trailing another bike home after a long night.

9/12/07: Talk about a change of pace from the Venture. Low, no bells or whistles and an inline 4 instead of a V4. Brings back memories of childhood. I think this could rate as one of those "midlife crisis" things.
8/1/07: The fairing is cracked on the left side and left vent is gone. front fender is cracked. Lower airdam fairing is missing. Right turn signal cover and mirrors are missing. Carbs need redone, gastank needs cleaned and sealed and the gastank cap needs replaced. Grips need replaced and bar ends need added. Battery is gone.
I would like to replace the fairing and restore it back to it's original condition but finding fairing parts is hard as these beautiful bikes are always in demand. I am thinking of doing a streetfighter look in the mean time. Small fairing or none at all.
First things on my plan of attack is to put in new battery, redo carbs, seal the tank, change fluids and get it running. Then work on the fairing. Once it's to a point of being ridable, then comes the usual things, chain/sprockets, bulbs, tires, brakes.
