Dear Clients
Evolution is in the air again!
Prep work started a few months ago on tripling the speed of
our connection to the world. This represents the largest
upgrade in our 12-year history. Clients will see benefits of
these changes over the course of the upcoming year.
What does this mean to you? Well
it means at no or low cost to you we will at least double
your speed on DSL (distance permitting). The reason we are
doing this is to keep up with the growing use of broadband
for Internet applications like High Definition online video,
gaming, VOIP, handheld devices and video conferencing which
are moving from their infancy to mainstream use.
These new higher speeds will
give users the ability use the Internet for serious home
entertainment outside the gaming world such as TV and movie
viewing. If you think about it we are all paying a huge cost
for services we are not using - an example would be cable or
satellite TV.
Tiffany and I pay over a $100.00
a month and of the hundreds of channels available, we only
use maybe twenty. The cable and satellite companies still
limit what we can see, when we can see it and often
force-feed us commercials. Well no more!
Tiffany and I spent hours over
the weekend downloading beautiful HD television programming
from Apple and other sites (ABC seems to have a good one).
We were successful in watching these programs on a large
screen 50” video monitor. It occurs to us that as a group of
customers, we who have high speed Internet will soon not be
dependant on cable or satellite for our television watching.
We can get high quality video today off the Internet and it
is getting better all the time.
So this is what we are
committing too. Over the next few months, we will put online
and in the newsletter how HD video works and how to obtain
it on your computer; what equipment you will need, what
software if any, what options are available and so forth.
Meanwhile we will be upgrading and reconstructing our
network to operate at the new higher speeds with lower
latency and the option in the future to boost our bandwidth
to even higher rates.
We have a loyal and adventurous
group of clients and we appreciate you all. Hang on as this
should be very interesting!
